Friedrich Ebert Foundation: Security Policy Metropolitan Conference Berlin
How can metropolitan regions effectively address the challenges of radicalization and Islamist-motivated attacks—without abandoning the fundamental values of diversity and freedom?
This question was central to the international Metropolitan Conference, which took place on November 26–27, 2019, at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Berlin.
The first day of the conference focused on how urban security can be achieved and how cities can create synergies in the fight against terrorism. Experts from Barcelona, London, Paris, Brussels, and Berlin analyzed the phenomena of radicalization and Islamist-motivated extremism and discussed proven measures and strategies.
On the second day of the conference, experts from academia, politics, and civil society discussed how the causes of radicalization can be identified and prevented through preventative measures.
