What Nourishes Trust in Multilateral Development Collaboration and How Can We Get There Together Accelerator Lab

The need for strengthened multilateralism is more critical than ever for addressing the complex, interconnected challenges of our time. However, declining trust in international cooperation, including tensions between the Global North and South, has created significant obstacles to tackling these challenges. Multilateral platforms struggle to bridge the growing divides between differing priorities, particularly regarding competing development paradigms and responses to global crises. There is an urgent need to rebuild trust and redefine the framework for international negotiations to foster fairer and more effective multilateral cooperation.

The Accelerator Lab, held as part of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2024, facilitated a participatory dialogue focused on the critical issue of trust in international negotiation processes and explored the challenges and opportunities for rebuilding the trust essential for a fair and effective multilateral system.
